Commerce or Charity

by Greg Allen Recently a friend and I were approached by a woman selling something that looked like jelly. She told us the price was $3. We could tell some effort had gone into preparing whatever was in the re-purposed jar. We could also tell she could really use the $3. My friend only had a five-dollar bill. He said, “I’ll just give her the five; I don’t need the change.” I asked him not to do that. I said, “You’ll be changing the whole transaction. She asked you to engage in commerce. Giving her the extra two dollars will change it to...

Free Will and A Loving God

by Merrick Korach Thank God that you’re able to read this blog. I thank Him that you’re able to do any normal routines throughout the day today. I thank Him that I am able to wake up every morning and choose how I will go about my day, who I interact with, and where I will go next. I thank Him because we were divinely created and not a single detail was left out while a loving Father shaped us in His image. While we operate computers and smart devices that man created, I am forever humbled that God didn’t put in the same amount of...

by Greg Allen Yesterday when we broke from prayer Merrick looked at his phone and said, “In 3 minutes the Future Business Leaders camp starts, a kid just texted and needs a ride, and the gym floor is covered with a thick layer of dust.” Immediately the members of the staff responded: “I can pick him up. What’s the address? “I’ll go get the clean-up started in the gym.” “I’ll get registration started for Future Business Leaders.” As though it were rehearsed, we all got up and went about our self-assigned tasks. It couldn’t have been...

by Merrick Korach We live in a world that is constantly changing. Inventions are altering the way that we communicate, the way we travel, and the way that we eat; whether it’s for the better or for worse, that can be left for debate. What is even crazier is that we play a significant role in the norm of society. If everyone rejected social media, I highly doubt that it would be around. The same goes for McDonald’s and other fast-food joints. Everything in life is contingent upon what we accept or place value in. So what do we accept as...

Summer is extra busy at IMPACT. Throughout the week we’re seeing nearly 75 different faces during basketball open gym. Merrick and Sean are hosting two adolescent Bible studies engaging more than 40...

New Eyes

by Greg Allen “Sure, I can help guide you. Actually, I’d love to do it!” I should have known it wasn’t going to be easy. When the young man asked me to help him in his spiritual growth process I thought it was a great opportunity. I still do. But, I didn’t expect it to have such an effect on me. It’s odd to find a young man untainted by crazy ideas about religion or unaffected by the examples he surely has seen of folks proclaiming one thing and living another. This young man truly seemed to be a “blank slate”. When that sunk in my brain I...
